Dark Tranquillity è una band svedese di melodic death metal formatasi a Gothenburg nel 1989. I membri fondatori sono il vocalist Anders Friden, i chitarristi Niklas Sundin e Mikael Stanne, il bassista Martin Henriksson e il batterista Anders Jivarp. Inizialmente la band si chiamava Septic Broiler, ma cambiò nome in Dark Tranquillity nel 1990. Considerati uno dei pionieri del genere melodic death metal, hanno influenzato numerose altre band con un sound caratterizzato da melodie orecchiabili e riff pesanti. Tra i loro album più importanti figurano *The Gallery* (1995), *Character* (1997) e *Projector* (2002). Alcuni dei brani più rappresentativi sono "The Treason", "Focus Shift", "Terminus" e "Lost to Apathy".
