As I roved out
Then who are you my pretty fair maid
and who are you my honey
Then who are you my pretty fair maid
and who are you my honey
She answered me quite modestly
I'm my mothers darlin
Will you come to me Mummy's house
when the moon is shinin clearly
Will you come to me Mummy's house
when the moon is shinin clearly
I'll open the door and I'll let you in
and devil the one will hear us
So I went to her house in the middle of the night
when the moon was shinin clearly
So I went to her house in the middle of the night
when the moon was shinin clearly
She opened the door and she let me in
and devil the one did hear us
She took my horse by the bridle and the bit
and she led him to the stable
She took my horse by the bridle and the bit
and she led him to the stable
Sayin there's plenty of oats for a soldier's horse
to eat it if he's able
Then she took me by the lilywhite hand
and she led me to the table
Then she took me by the lilywhite hand
and she led me to the table
Sayin there's plenty of wine for a soldier boy
drink it if your're able
Then she got up and she made the bed
and she made it nice and aisy
Then she got up and she made the bed
and she made it nice and aisy
Then she took me by the hand sayin
I hope to God you're able
There we lay till the break of day
and devil the one did hear us
There we lay till the break of day
and devil the one did hear us
Then she arose, pulled on her clothes sayin
darlin you must leave me
When can I return again
and when might we get married
When can I return again
and when might we get married
