Modern English è un gruppo musicale britannico formatosi a Colchester, Essex, nel 1979 da Robbie Grey (voce), Gary McDowell (chitarra, voce) e Michael Conroy (basso, voce). Inizialmente conosciuti come "The Lepers", il gruppo assunse il nome di Modern English con l'aggiunta di Richard Brown (batteria) e Stephen Walker (tastiere). Il loro sound post-punk si caratterizza per melodie orecchiabili e atmosfere introspettive, influenzate dal synthpop e dalla new wave.
