Newsies è un musical con musiche di Alan Menken, testi di Jack Feldman e libretto di Harvey Fierstein. La storia, ambientata nel New York del 1899, narra le vicende di un gruppo di ragazzi che vendono giornali per strada (i "newsies") e si ribellano contro l'aumento dei prezzi imposto dai magnati dell'editoria. Il musical è basato sul film omonimo del 1992 diretto da Kenny Ortega, ma presenta una trama più approfondita e personaggi più complessi. Newsies debuttò a Broadway nel 2012 ed ottenne un grande successo di pubblico e critica, rimanendo in scena per oltre 1000 repliche fino al 24 agosto 2014. Il musical è stato candidato a otto Tony Award, vincendone due: quello per la migliore colonna sonora originale e quello per le migliori coreografie. Tra i brani più famosi di Newsies figurano "Carrying the Banner", "Seize the Day" e "Santa Fe".
