Jefferson Starship è un gruppo musicale statunitense formatosi a San Francisco nel 1974, dalla fusione di elementi del precedente Jefferson Airplane e dal progetto solista di Paul Kantner. Dopo lo scioglimento del Jefferson Airplane, Kantner riunì alcuni membri per formare il nuovo gruppo, che ha visto la partecipazione di artisti come Grace Slick, David Freiberg e Marty Balin. Il genere musicale del gruppo è principalmente rock progressivo con influenze psichedeliche e folk. Jefferson Starship ha raggiunto grande successo negli anni '70 e '80 con album come *Dragon Fly* (1974), *Red Octopus* (1975) e *Spitfire* (1976). Tra i brani più famosi del gruppo si ricordano *Somebody to Love*, *We Built This City* e *Jane*. Il gruppo ha attraversato diverse fasi di evoluzione, con cambiamenti nella formazione e nel sound musicale. Nel 2018, Paul Kantner è morto a causa di complicazioni legate a un intervento chirurgico.
