Emperor è una storica band black metal norvegese, attiva dal 1991 al 2001 e poi di nuovo dal 2014. Considerati uno dei gruppi più influenti del genere, Emperor ha contribuito a definire l'estetica e la sonorità del black metal sinestesico con un approccio melodico e atmosferico. Il gruppo è composto da Ihsahn (voce, chitarra) e Samoth (chitarra), che hanno collaborato con altri musicisti come Trym (batteria) e Mortiis (tastiere). Tra i loro album più importanti figurano *In the Nightside Eclipse* (1994), considerato un classico del genere, e *Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk* (1997). Emperor è noto per brani come 'I Am the Black Wizards', 'Thus spake Zarathustra' e 'The Majesty of the Nightsky'.

Nel 2023, oltre il 70% delle canzoni entrate nella Billboard Hot 100 aveva avuto un'origine virale su piattaforme social prima di ricevere attenzione radiofonica.
Il 28 aprile 1986 la cantante Graziella Franchini, in arte Lolita, veniva ritrovata esanime e sfigurata nella camera del residence di Lamezia Terme in cui viveva ormai da un pò di tempo. L'omicidio è rimasto privo di colpevoli.
