Some call me a sinner, some call me a saint
Sometimes I'm a winner, sometimes I ain't
God didn't wash everybody with the same color paint
And sunlight won't fade this black, until it's dull and it's faint
Well, I know there's a purpose, hidden under the surface
And all my life I heard that the truth shall set you free
Won't somebody tell the truth to send for me?
Set me free
I need the truth to set me free
Set me free
From all the lies that they tellin' on me
Set me free
Well, I know my destiny and I walk faithfully
Set me free
I want the truth to set me free
Set me free
Momma knows who I am
She raised me to be a good man
And she knows what I'm made of
Well, she was sure that she gave love
Everybody ain't got the same home trainin'
That don't need no explainin'
It's gon' be some weeds in the garden
Spore seeds with hearts that have hardened
But I know the purpose within this
Underneath the surface is forgiveness
And all my life I heard that the truth shall set you free
Won't somebody tell the truth to send for me?
Set me free
Oh, I need the truth to set me free
Set me free
From all the lies that they tellin' on me
Set me free
Well, I know my destiny and I walk faithfully
Set me free
Set me, set me, set me free
I been to the edge of darkness
Where dreams don't exist
I've seen the cold and the heartless
It doesn't need to be like this
I know someway, somehow
The truth will persist
And I never take for granted my freedom
(Set me free)
Oh, I need the truth to set me free
(Set me free)
From all the lies that they tellin' on me
(Set me free)
Well, I know my destiny and I'm walking faithfully
(Set me free)
Set me free
(Set me free)
And get me back all of my lost time
(Set me free)
Don't tell me that bein' black is my worst crime
(Set me free)
I got dreams and goals and it feeds my soul
(Set me free)
Set me free, yeah
(Set me free)
Set me free, yeah
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
