The Magnetic Fields sono un gruppo musicale statunitense formatosi a New York negli anni '90. Il gruppo è guidato dal cantautore Stephin Merritt, che scrive quasi tutti i brani e interpreta la maggior parte delle musiche. La formazione include Claudia Gonson, Sam Davol e John Woo. Merritt è noto per il suo stile musicale eclettico, che spazia dal pop al folk, dall'indie rock alla musica classica. The Magnetic Fields sono famosi per l'album *69 Love Songs*, un progetto monumentale composto da 69 canzoni d'amore di diverse tematiche e stili musicali. Tra i brani più rappresentativi del gruppo figurano "The Book of Love", "Absolutely Cuckoo" e "I Don't Want to Get Over You". Merritt ha collaborato con lo scrittore Lemony Snicket, autore della celebre serie di romanzi per ragazzi *Una serie di sfortunati eventi*.
