La formazione originale e più di successo era composta da Cindy Herron, Dawn Robinson, Terry Ellis e Maxine Jones. Il loro album di debutto, *Born to Sing*, uscito ad aprile 1990, ha generato diversi successi commerciali, molti dei quali hanno attraversato le classifiche R and B per raggiungere quelle pop.
