Phil Ochs (1940-1976) è stato un cantautore americano noto per le sue canzoni di protesta politica e sociale. Nato Philip David Ochs a El Paso, Texas, ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale negli anni '50, influenzato da artisti come Woody Guthrie e Pete Seeger. Ochs si distinse per il suo impegno civile e la sua capacità di trasformare eventi politici in testi incisivi e musicalmente coinvolgenti. Le sue canzoni affrontavano temi come la guerra del Vietnam, la disuguaglianza sociale e i diritti civili, guadagnandosi l'appellativo di "topical singer", un termine che lui stesso preferiva a quello di cantautore di protesta. Tra le sue canzoni più famose ricordiamo "Draft Dodger Rag", "I Ain't Marching Anymore" e "Here's to the State of Mississippi".
