Sydney Bertram Carter (6 maggio 1915 – 13 marzo 2004) è stato un poeta, cantautore e musicista folk inglese. Nato a Camden Town, Londra, è noto soprattutto per la canzone *Lord of the Dance* (1963), su melodia del tradizionale canto shaker *Simple Gifts*, e per *The Crow on the Cradle*, adattamento di un antico canto popolare. Tra le altre canzoni degne di nota figurano *Julian of Norwich*, *One More Step Along the Road I go...*, *When I Needed a Neighbour*, *Every Star Shall Sing a Carol*, *The Youth of the Heart* e *Down Below*. Carter ha contribuito in modo significativo alla diffusione della musica folk tradizionale inglese, reinterpretandola con sensibilità e originalità.
