Boogie Down Productions were one of the formative bands of both hardcore and political hip-hop, led by rapper KRS-One. They released a seminal hardcore rap album in 1987 - Criminal Minded - which was unfortunately overshadowed when one of the key members was murdered mere weeks after it's release.
