The Sisters of Mercy sono un gruppo musicale britannico di genere gothic rock, emersi dalla scena post-punk alla fine degli anni '70. Fondati a Leeds nel 1980 da Andrew Eldritch (voce), il gruppo ha subito diverse formazioni nel corso della sua storia, con Paul Hession (chitarra) e Wayne Hussey (chitarra) tra i membri più longevi. Il loro sound, caratterizzato da atmosfere cupe, melodie sinistre e testi introspettivi, li ha rapidamente catapultati nell'underground goth britannico. A metà degli anni '80, The Sisters of Mercy hanno raggiunto un successo commerciale significativo con album come *First and Last and Always* (1985) e *Vision Thing* (1987), che hanno introdotto il loro sound a un pubblico più ampio. Brani come «Temple of Love», «This Corrosion» e «Lucretia My Reflection» sono diventati classici del genere gothic rock. Dopo una serie di contrasti con la casa discografica, il gruppo ha cessato le pubblicazioni nel 1990. Sebbene abbiano avuto periodi di inattività, The Sisters of Mercy sono tornati a esibirsi dal vivo negli anni '90 e hanno continuato a registrare musica sporadicamente. Il loro ultimo album in studio è *Floodland* (1987).

Nel 2023, oltre il 70% delle canzoni entrate nella Billboard Hot 100 aveva avuto un'origine virale su piattaforme social prima di ricevere attenzione radiofonica.
Il 28 aprile 1986 la cantante Graziella Franchini, in arte Lolita, veniva ritrovata esanime e sfigurata nella camera del residence di Lamezia Terme in cui viveva ormai da un pò di tempo. L'omicidio è rimasto privo di colpevoli.

A 94 anni suonati, il leggendario "Capitano Kirk" William Shatner o, per gli appassionati dei telefilm anni '80, il sergente T.J. Hooker, ha ancora dei progetti da realizzare. Tra essi un album metal di cover e inediti con la collaborazione di grandi firme del settore.
L'inno di Mameli cantato da Laura Pausini in occasione dei Giochi Olimpici Invernali non smette di far discutere. Non è un caso isolato.
E' prevista per la prossima estate l'uscita del docufilm "Iron Maiden's Lost Singer", che riguarda Paul Di'Anno, cantante degli Iron Maiden dal 1978 al 1981, che è venuto a mancare a fine 2024.
