Rick James, pseudonimo di James Ambrose Johnson Jr. (Buffalo, 1º febbraio 1948 – Los Angeles, 6 agosto 2004), è stato un cantautore, musicista e produttore discografico statunitense. Considerato uno dei pionieri della funk e del soul contemporaneo, ha raggiunto il successo negli anni '80 con brani come "Super Freak", "Give It To Me Baby" e "You and I". La sua musica era caratterizzata da un sound potente e aggressivo, influenzato dal rock, dalla psichedelia e dal funk. James è stato anche un produttore di talento, lavorando con artisti come Teena Marie e The Mary Jane Girls. La sua carriera è stata segnata da alti e bassi, tra successi commerciali e problemi personali. Nel 1990 è stato condannato per violenza domestica, evento che ha avuto un impatto significativo sulla sua immagine pubblica. Nonostante le difficoltà, Rick James rimane una figura iconica della musica funk e soul, ricordato per la sua energia scenica e il suo stile musicale unico.

Il 28 aprile 1986 la cantante Graziella Franchini, in arte Lolita, veniva ritrovata esanime e sfigurata nella camera del residence di Lamezia Terme in cui viveva ormai da un pò di tempo. L'omicidio è rimasto privo di colpevoli.
