Head East è una rock band originaria di South Central Illinois, poi trasferitasi a Champaign, Illinois. Il gruppo si è formato con il vocalist John Schlitt, il chitarrista Mike Somerville, il tastierista Roger Boyd, il bassista Dan Birney e il batterista Steve Huston. Si sono conosciuti e hanno formato la band mentre studiavano all'Università dell'Illinois a Champaign. La band ha ottenuto successo nel Midwest durante gli anni '70, ma è caduta nell'oblio nelle decadi successive.
