Alan Jay Lerner (31 agosto 1918 – 14 giugno 1986) è stato un paroliere e librettista statunitense. Collaborando con Frederick Loewe, ha creato alcuni dei lavori teatrali musicali più popolari e duraturi al mondo, sia per il palcoscenico che per il cinema. Ha vinto tre Tony Award e tre Academy Award, tra gli altri riconoscimenti. Lerner è nato a New York City da una famiglia ebrea. Dopo aver studiato alla Harvard University, ha iniziato la sua carriera come giornalista e scrittore di sceneggiature teatrali. Nel 1943, ha incontrato Loewe e insieme hanno dato vita a un sodalizio artistico di successo che ha prodotto capolavori come *Brigadoon*, *My Fair Lady* e *Camelot*. Le loro opere sono caratterizzate da melodie memorabili, testi poetici e storie romantiche e avventurose.
