Lucy Pearl è stato un supergruppo R and B formatosi nel 1999, frutto dell'idea di Raphael Saadiq, ex membro del gruppo Tony! Toni! Tone!, e D'Angelo. Quest'ultimo si ritirò dal progetto a causa di impegni lavorativi pregressi. Il gruppo era completato da Dawn Robinson (di En Vogue) e Ali Shaheed Muhammad (ex A Tribe Called Quest). Nel 2000 hanno pubblicato il loro album d'esordio omonimo, "Lucy Pearl". L'album ha riscosso un discreto successo grazie a brani come "Dance Tonight" e "You Got Me", che hanno conquistato le classifiche R and B. La formazione di Lucy Pearl ha rappresentato una fusione interessante tra stili musicali diversi, con influenze soul, funk e hip hop.
