People often tell me
That all my songs are sad
Lately i spend all my time
alone and feeling bad
but they can rest assured
that i've seen good times too
but good times they don't sound as good
as the things that make me blue
good times they don't rhyme as well
and happy songs don't always tell
the truth about the living hell
that a woman sometimes brings
I used to like watching hippie dance
till i traded mine in for a burning man
chances are it wasn't meant to be
so i'll keep writing cowboy songs
and being me
theres laughing on the hillside
theres crying down below
theres a crook on every corner
and theres mercy on your soul
theres a woman that will love you
and theres a woman that will cheat
theres a loyal dog just waitin
alone on every street
so get a dog
good times they don't rhyme as well
and happy songs don't always tell
the truth about the living hell
that a woman sometimes brings
i went over to her house to make amends
and found her jumping on the bed
with all my friends
chances are it wasn't meant to be
good times they don't rhyme as well
and happy songs they don't always tell
the truth about the living hell
that a woman sometimes brings
the girl in echo park was cute
til she ran off with the blue man group
chances are it wasn't meant to be
so i'll keep picking this here guitar and feeling mean
theres a bar girl in the window
she's staring back at me
shes still as a stubborn statue
she's fine as make believe
but shes filled with bad intentions
and her eyes are made of sin
she's taken fire and brimstone to the lives of many men
stear clear
the good times they don't rhyme as well
and happy songs don't always tell
the truth about the living hell
that a woman sometimes brings
so take advice from me my friend
just don't fall in love with a mannequin
chances are it wasn't meant to be
just keep stealing cowboy songs and feeling free
we'll just keep stealing cowboy songs and feeling free
Tra le sue canzoni più rappresentative si ricordano "The Ballad of the Broken Hearted", "Mama's Song" e "You Are My Sunshine".
