Band of Skulls è un gruppo musicale britannico formatosi nel 2008 da Russell Marsden (chitarra, voce), Emma Richardson (basso, voce) e Matt Hayward (batteria). I tre si sono conosciuti all'università e hanno iniziato a suonare in locali notturni nella zona di Londra. Inizialmente si chiamavano Fleeing New York, ma nel novembre 2008 hanno cambiato nome in Band of Skulls. Il loro album di debutto, *Baby Darling Doll Face Honey*, è stato distribuito da Shangri-La Music e pubblicato il 6 marzo 2009 esclusivamente su iTunes, seguito da un'uscita generale il 20 marzo. Il brano *I Know What I Am* è stato scelto come singolo gratuito della settimana di iTunes in concomitanza con l'uscita digitale. La canzone è stata anche inclusa nella colonna sonora di una serie televisiva; è la sesta traccia di *Friday Night Lights, Volume 2*, uscita il 4 maggio 2010. Il singolo *Friends*, proveniente da *Baby Darling Doll Face Honey*, è stato incluso nella colonna sonora di *The Twilight Saga: New Moon* nel novembre 2009. Il 23 marzo 2010 la Band of Skulls ha pubblicato l'EP *Friends*, che include la versione in studio di *Friends*, una versione dal vivo e un video musicale della canzone.
