Down By Law è una band punk rock formatasi intorno al 1990. Il frontman Dave Smalley, già noto per il suo lavoro con Dag Nasty, ha collaborato con i membri di Chemical People per il loro album d'esordio, passando attraverso diverse formazioni nel corso degli anni. Iniziando con Epitaph Records per il loro primo album omonimo, DBL è rimasta sulla stessa etichetta fino a "Last of the Sharpshooters" del 1997. Un breve periodo su Go Kart Records ha visto la luce "Fly the Flag", mentre il loro ultimo lavoro, "Windward Tides and Wayward Sails", risale al 2003 ed è stato pubblicato da Union Label Group. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si possono citare "The Last of the Sharpshooters", "Fly the Flag" e "Windward Tides and Wayward Sails".
