At the Gates è stata una band di melodic death metal proveniente da Gothenburg, Svezia, e considerata uno dei principali precursori del suono death metal gothenborghese. Attiva inizialmente dal 1990 al 1996, la band si è riunita nel 2007 per un tour di reunion. L'ultimo concerto si è tenuto il 21 settembre 2008 ad Atene. Considerati pionieri del genere melodic death metal, At the Gates hanno influenzato numerose band successive con il loro sound caratterizzato da riff veloci e melodie orecchiabili, unite a testi spesso oscuri e introspettivi. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano "Blinded by Fear", "The Mirror" e "Slaughter of the Soul". L'album "Slaughter of the Soul" (1996) è considerato un classico del genere, apprezzato per la sua potenza musicale e l'atmosfera cupa.
