I grew up like most of y'all
This big ole world seems so small
Never grew to earn a PhD
I bounced around this sleepy town
From the age of 3 to here and now
Things are not the way they used to be
Seein' things as I recall
I didn't have much, but I had it all
Looking back I smile from ear to ear
Grandpa'd take me fishin'
And to this day I miss him
In my mind his voice is crystal clear
He'd say, honesty don't bother me
I'm not big on Socrates
I've learned all I know in dungarees
Yes ma'am, no sir, thanks and please
That there's my philosophy
Friends and foes may come and go
Love will persevere
The rest is just what happens 'round here
Between coffee and beer
Billy's in some foreign land
His better half don't understand
They got 3 young kids they need to feed
Uncle Sam he wants our vote
As hopes and dreams go up in smoke
I guess our sweet sweet freedom ain't so free
We work our fingers to the bone
And do our best to hold our own
We focus on our friends and family
I hug 'em and I kiss 'em
I pray to God they listen
When I tell 'em like my grandpa said to me
He'd say, honesty don't bother me
I'm not big on Socrates
I've learned all I know in dungarees
Yes ma'am, no sir, thanks and please
That there's my philosophy
Friends and foes may come and go
Love will persevere
The rest is just what happens 'round here
Between coffee and beer
Now I don't know what K-pop is
Or understand this Bitcoin biz
But I know those who count on me believe
That I'll be there if they should call
To help or catch them if they fall
And that's what being wealthy means to me
Now everybody has their truth
And I'm not speaking down to you
But I can say all this with no reserve
That no one that I ever met
At least none that I have met yet
Regretted living grandpa's simple words
He'd say, honesty don't bother me
I'm not big on Socrates
I've learned all I know in dungarees
Yes ma'am, no sir, thanks and please
That there's my philosophy
Friends and foes may come and go
Love will persevere
The rest is just what happens 'round here
Between coffee and beer
The rest is just what happens 'round here
Between coffee and beer, yeah
The best is just what happens 'round here
Between coffee and beer
