Isaac Lee Hayes Jr. (1942-2008) è stato un musicista, cantante, compositore e attore statunitense considerato uno dei pionieri della musica soul e funk. Nato a Memphis, Tennessee, Hayes ha iniziato la sua carriera come tastierista per Stax Records negli anni '60, collaborando con artisti come Otis Redding e Sam and Dave. Nel 1968 ha raggiunto il successo internazionale con l'album "Hot Buttered Soul", un capolavoro del soul che combina elementi di jazz, funk e musica classica. Hayes è stato anche un attore di talento, interpretando ruoli in film come "Shaft" (1971) e la serie televisiva "The Blues Brothers" (1980).
