Jonathan Butler è un cantautore e chitarrista sudafricano nato a Città del Capo nell'ottobre 1961. La sua musica è spesso classificata come R and B, jazz fusion o smooth jazz. Butler ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale all'età di sette anni, esibendosi in locali e festival in Sudafrica. Nel 1980 si trasferisce negli Stati Uniti dove continua a suonare e registrare musica. Ha collaborato con artisti come Kenny G e Al Jarreau. Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano "Lies", "Going Home" e "Every Time You Cry". Butler è considerato uno dei musicisti jazz più influenti del suo tempo, noto per la sua tecnica chitarristica virtuosa e le sue melodie avvolgenti.
