We tread the water just to keep our bodies warm
They say it's darkest just before the break of dawn
Raised on bedtime tales of the leviathan below
Unholy enemies, so faceless, dark and cold
Every second leaves us guessing
Stepping backward and regressing
Cracks will form and show
How far we are from what we think we know
Taloned claws will tear me open
Sharpened knives will cut the rope
Let us fall
Let us see that we deserved it all
We're holding tighter to every moment
But it's only just a matter of time
Say a prayer, before you run out of air
We're heading straight for a fault line
If only we could open our eyes
I won't die for this, I won't die for you
'Cause I'd kill to be anywhere but here with you
And I take no solace in the knowledge that we're doomed
Bound from birth to tomb
We found a hole in the armour, found a break in the chain
And we promised ourselves it wouldn't happen again
(So heaven help me now)
We built a temple to the clouds
(Keep my feet aground)
Too self-obsessed to guess
We'd watch it all come crashing down
I didn't climb this high to watch us stoop so low
We tied the loop at the end of the rope
We're holding tighter to every moment
But it's only just a matter of time
Say a prayer, before you run out of air
We're heading straight for a fault line
If only we could open our eyes
So keep on treading water 'til your blood runs cold
And when the void opens up beneath you
You're better off to face it alone
Black hole
Ambition, extinction
We're all bound to repeat
Contrition, perdition
Until again we meet
Until again we meet
If this is all we are
The flickers of a dying star
We never stood a chance
So if you see me leaving
Just give me one good reason
To wait around
Stand beside you as the sky falls down
If this is all we are
The flickers of a dying star
We never stood a chance
We're holding tighter to every moment
But it's only just a matter of time
Say a prayer, before you run out of air
We're heading straight for a fault line
If only we could open our eyes
