She was eating ice cream, licking her lips
Down by the United Fried Chicken truck
She was harder than a hammer
Smoother than a spoon
And higher than a hot air balloon
I sat right down, she said, I'm waiting for a friend
We all start out as strangers, I said with a grin
Then I ordered two more of whatever she was having
That's when she told me just what she was all about
(Chorus)
She said it's blood, whiskey, smoke and steel
If you want to get to know, honey, how I feel
She said I got a man, see
And he understands me
And I ain't got time wasting just talking to you
Well the man said, sprinkles?
I said yes
I said I don't know what you mean, honey
I was just trying to be nice
I don't carry bad intentions
As I handed her the cone, I said
If your man understands,
How come you're here all alone
(Chorus)
And then she didn't say nothing
She was wiping off her fingers
She got cherry ice cream
Underneath her rings
And when she slipped that ring off
And her hand was free
It was as easy as lovin' is supposed to be
She had me up, down
She pushed me around
We were sipping from the same straw
All over town
Then she took a step back
She said it made her think twice
She said that feeling this good, you know
It don't feel right
(Chorus)
Well she picked up and left me paying the check
I had one more for the road,
Just before I left
The man said, buddy, I think you've had enough
I said, I'll say when, you just keep setting me up
'Cause it's blood, whiskey, smoke and steel
If you wanna get to know, sonny, how I feel
I ain't no man to make you wanna understand me
And I ain't got time wasting just talking to you
