Sonic Youth è stato un gruppo alternative/noise rock statunitense formatosi nel 1981 a New York. La band, composta da Kim Gordon (basso, voce), Thurston Moore (chitarra, voce), Lee Ranaldo (chitarra, voce) e Steve Shelley (batteria), ha rivoluzionato il panorama musicale degli anni '80 e '90 con un sound sperimentale che mescolava elementi di punk rock, noise, avant-garde e musica elettronica. I Sonic Youth sono noti per l'utilizzo innovativo della chitarra feedback, la complessità ritmica e le performance teatrali. Tra i loro album più importanti figurano "Daydream Nation" (1988), considerato un capolavoro del genere alternative rock, e "Goo" (1990), che li ha portati al successo mainstream.
