Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend, meglio conosciuto come Pete Townshend, è un musicista britannico nato a Londra nel 1945. È considerato uno dei più influenti chitarristi e cantautori del rock, noto soprattutto per il suo ruolo di leader e chitarrista principale del gruppo The Who. Townshend ha contribuito in modo significativo alla definizione del sound rock degli anni '60 e '70 con la sua tecnica chitarristica innovativa, le sue melodie memorabili e i testi spesso impegnati su temi sociali e politici. Tra i brani più rappresentativi di Townshend figurano "My Generation", "Baba O'Riley" e "Won't Get Fooled Again". Nel corso della sua carriera ha collaborato con artisti come Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle e Keith Moon, formando un quartetto musicale leggendario. Townshend è anche un autore prolifico, avendo scritto numerosi libretti per musical e opere teatrali.
