Mary Chapin Carpenter è una cantautrice e chitarrista americana, nata a 1958 a Princeton, New Jersey. Conosciuta per il suo songwriting introspettivo e la sua voce calda e rassicurante, ha raggiunto un grande successo negli anni '90 con album come "Time*Sex*Love" (1992) e "Stones in the Road" (1994). Carpenter è stata nominata 5 volte ai Grammy Awards, vincendo il premio per la migliore performance vocale country femminile nel 1993 per il brano "He Thinks He'll Keep Her". Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano anche "Down at the Twist and Shout", "I Take My Chances" e "Passionate Kisses".
