Megadeth è una band di thrash metal statunitense formatasi a Los Angeles nel 1983. Fondata dal chitarrista e cantante Dave Mustaine, ex membro dei Metallica, il gruppo ha rapidamente guadagnato fama per la sua musica aggressiva, complessa e politicamente carica. Mustaine si distingue per le sue riff chitarristici veloci e intricate, mentre i testi affrontano temi come la guerra, la società, la religione e la libertà individuale. Tra gli album più importanti figurano "Rust in Peace" (1990), considerato un capolavoro del thrash metal, e "Countdown to Extinction" (1992), che ha raggiunto il successo commerciale. Megadeth ha collaborato con artisti come Marty Friedman, Nick Menza e Shawn Drover, contribuendo a definire l'evoluzione del genere thrash metal negli anni '80 e '90. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due", "Symphony of Destruction" e "Peace Sells".
Dave Mustaine è stato il chitarrista solista dei Metallica dal 1981 al 1983. I dissidi con James Hetfield sancirono la fine del sodalizio ma, nello stesso anno, fondò i Megadeth.
