I've been thinkin' about us lately
Relationships they float in many ways
The distance never seemed so crazy
It's just the way the cards had to be played
I played my hand you played your hand
A father had to?be?a?man
A son just?wanted to be?loved again
And I do think about it daily
The way we were back then, no
I've been runnin' 'round for a minute
Been growin' my own soul
Been lookin' up at an image
I never could control
Been pushin' things to the limit
I think I might implode
It ain't got to be this different
We could pick it up and just go, yeah!
I know this world is takin' you
To a place you ain't approve, well
I was just hoping
That we could take it back a few
And do the things we used to do
I'm sayin' let's go back to Oakland
You've been underneath the mood
Everything you see is blue
I just want to take it down to Oakland
I know that what I saw in you
Had a vibe, it had a groove
And I just want to go back to Oakland
And it felt so nice
What kind of paradise is hidden in this concrete?
I was a child but I was old enough to know that
Cali air brought you some peace
And I remember it, I remember it
Like it was yesterday
It was a simple time, a simple place
It seemed since then things have got complicated
I've been runnin' 'round for a minute
Been growin' my own soul
Been lookin' up at an image
I never could control
Been pushin' things to the limit
I think I might implode
It ain't got to be this different
We could pick it up and just go, yeah!
I know this world is takin' you
To a place you ain't approve, well
I was just hoping
That we could take it back a few
And do the things we used to do
I'm sayin' let's go back to Oakland
You've been underneath the mood
Everything you see is blue
I just want to take it down to Oakland
I know that what I saw in you
Had a vibe, it had a groove
And I just want to go back to Oakland
I seen you regularly then, yeah
I seen you regularly then, yeah, yeah, yeah
I seen you regularly then
We were regular then, yeah
We were regular, we were, we were, we were
We, we, we should go back to Oakland
