John Legend, pseudonimo di John Roger Stephens, è un cantautore, produttore discografico, produttore televisivo, produttore teatrale e personaggio televisivo statunitense. Nato a Springfield, nell'Ohio, nel 1978, ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale come pianista e compositore all'Università di Pennsylvania. Dopo aver ottenuto il suo diploma in inglese, si è trasferito a New York per perseguire una carriera musicale. Ha collaborato con artisti come Kanye West, Jay-Z e Alicia Keys, contribuendo a diversi album di successo. Nel 2004 ha pubblicato il suo album di debutto, *Get Lifted*, che ha ricevuto un'accoglienza critica positiva e gli ha valso numerosi premi Grammy.
