Klayton è noto per essere stato il frontman e compositore dei gruppi Circle of Dust, Argyle Park e Angeldust (con Criss Angel), tra gli altri. La musica di Celldweller è poliedrica, spesso classificata come elettronica rock o descritta come una combinazione di rock e trance.
