I Misanthrope sono una band heavy metal francese formatasi nel 1989. Considerati uno dei pilastri del movimento black metal francese, hanno contribuito a definire il sound oscuro e aggressivo di questo genere musicale. La loro musica è caratterizzata da riff distorti, batteria potente e testi spesso incentrati su temi apocalittici, satanici e anti-sociali. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano "Le Chant du Loup", "La Mort des Dieux" e "L'Enfer sur Terre". Nel corso della loro carriera hanno pubblicato diversi album, tra cui "Misanthrope" (1990), "The Blackest Day" (1992) e "In the Shadow of Death" (1994). I Misanthrope sono noti per i loro concerti intensi e coinvolgenti, che spesso includono elementi teatrali e scenografici. La band ha collaborato con altri artisti del genere black metal francese, come Darkthrone e Gorgoroth.
