Gli Unexpect sono stati una band canadese di avant-garde metal attiva tra il 1998 e il 2007. Il loro stile musicale era caratterizzato da un'eclettica fusione di generi come black metal, death metal, progressive metal, melodic metal, musica classica, opera, musica medievale, jazz, elettronica, ambient, noise e musica gitana. Questa combinazione audace li ha portati a essere considerati una delle band più innovative del panorama metal underground. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si possono citare "The Serpent's Tongue", "Aeon of Sorrow" e "The Dance of Death". L'album di debutto, "The Unseen World", pubblicato nel 2001, è considerato un classico del genere avant-garde metal. Gli Unexpect hanno collaborato con artisti come Devin Townsend e i Kataklysm.
