Stratovarius è un gruppo musicale power metal finlandese formatosi ad Helsinki nel 1984 da Tuomo Lassila (batteria), Staffan Stråhlman (chitarra) e John Vihervä (basso). La formazione che ha portato al successo internazionale vedeva Timo Tolkki alla chitarra, Timo Kotipelto alla voce, Jens Johansson alle tastiere, Jari Kainulainen al basso e Jörg Michael alla batteria. Tolkki è l'autore della maggior parte delle musiche e dei testi. Il loro sound si caratterizza per melodie epiche, riff di chitarra virtuosi e un uso sapiente del keyboard. Tra i brani più rappresentativi: *Black Diamond*, *Forever*, *Hunting High and Low*. Gli album *Visions* (1997) e *Destiny* (2005) sono considerati tra le loro opere più importanti.
