Dio è una band heavy metal formatasi nel 1982 da Ronnie James Dio, dopo la sua esperienza con Black Sabbath. Il gruppo originale comprendeva Dio alla voce, Vinny Appice alla batteria, Vivian Campbell alla chitarra e Jimmy Bain al basso. Claude Schnell si unì al gruppo dopo il primo album, permettendo a Dio di concentrarsi esclusivamente sulla voce. Dio ha raggiunto grande successo negli anni '80 con un sound potente e melodico, influenzato dal fantasy e dalla mitologia. Tra i brani più rappresentativi: *Holy Diver*, *Rainbow in the Dark* e *The Last in Line*. L'album di debutto omonimo (1982) è considerato un classico del genere heavy metal.
