Gorillaz è un progetto musicale collaborativo nato dall'incontro tra Damon Albarn, frontman del gruppo Blur, e l'artista Jamie Hewlett, creatore di Tank Girl. Il progetto vede la partecipazione di quattro personaggi animati: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle e Russel, che formano una band hip-hop virtuale. I video musicali dei Gorillaz mescolano animazione, realismo e sound design, esplorando temi di artificio e autenticità nella musica. L'idea per i Gorillaz nacque osservando MTV e la percezione che gran parte del contenuto fosse artificiale e creato solo per il consumo. Nel corso della loro carriera, hanno collaborato con artisti come De La Soul, Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed e Elton John, contribuendo a definire l'estetica e la sonorità dell'indie rock contemporaneo. Alcuni dei brani più rappresentativi includono "Clint Eastwood", "Feel Good Inc.", "DARE" e "On Melancholy Hill". L'album di debutto omonimo (2001) ha riscosso un enorme successo, consolidando la posizione dei Gorillaz come una delle band più innovative e influenti del XXI secolo.
