The Silver Jews sono stati una band indie rock di New York City, formatasi nel 1989 da David Berman insieme a Stephen Malkmus e Bob Nastanovich dei Pavement. Berman è rimasto l'unico membro costante durante tutta la loro esistenza, sebbene Cassie Berman si sia unita come membro regolare negli ultimi album. La band si è sciolta nel 2009. Berman, poeta e scrittore di talento, ha caratterizzato il sound dei Silver Jews con testi introspettivi, spesso ironici e malinconici, che esploravano temi come la solitudine, l'alienazione e la ricerca di significato nella vita moderna. La musica della band era un mix di folk rock, lo-fi e psichedelia, influenzata da artisti come Neil Young, The Velvet Underground e Leonard Cohen. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano 'Random Rules', 'How to Dispose of a Body' e 'Trains Across the Sea'.
