The Format è stato un gruppo indie rock formato dai nativi dell'Arizona Nate Ruess e Sam Means. La band ha annunciato una pausa il 4 febbraio 2008. Il loro stile può essere considerato una miscela di musica indie, alternativa, punk e folk, con elementi della musica pop degli anni '60 e '70. Sebbene Means e Ruess siano i membri principali del gruppo, hanno suonato e registrato con Mike Schey, Mark Buzard, Don Raymond e, per la registrazione del DVD e il tour estivo 2007, Adam Boyd, batterista attuale di The Honorary Title e ex membro di The Format.
