Varathron sono un gruppo musicale black metal greco formatosi ad Atene nel 1988 da Stefanos Karasavvas, noto con lo pseudonimo di Stefan Necroabyssious. Considerati tra i pionieri della scena black metal greca insieme a band come Rotting Christ e Necromantia, Varathron hanno un sound caratterizzato da atmosfere cupe e ritmi veloci. Il loro primo concerto risale al 1990, condividendo il palco con i Rotting Christ. Il debutto discografico arriva nel 1993 con l'album "His Majesty at the Swamp", pubblicato dall'etichetta Cyber Music. Tra le canzoni più rappresentative del gruppo si annoverano "The Serpent's Embrace", "Blood of the Gods" e "Darkest Hour".
