Bathory è stata una storica band heavy metal svedese, fondata nel 1983 da Quorthon (pseudonimo di Lars-Göran Petrov). Considerati pionieri sia del black metal che del Viking metal, hanno influenzato profondamente il panorama musicale underground. Il nome della band deriva dalla celebre contessa ungherese Elisabetta Bathory, nota per le sue pratiche sanguinaria e la leggenda che la circonda. Bathory ha pubblicato una serie di album fondamentali, tra cui "Blood Fire Death" (1987), considerato un punto di riferimento del black metal, e "Hammerheart" (1990), che introduce elementi folk e viking. Altri album importanti sono "Twilight of the Gods" (1996) e "Requiem" (2001). Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano "Total Destruction", "In League with Satan", "The Lake", "Equimanthorn" e "Outro Aeternum". Quorthon, unico membro stabile della band, ha gestito tutti gli aspetti musicali e produttivi fino alla sua scomparsa nel 2004.

Il 28 aprile 1986 la cantante Graziella Franchini, in arte Lolita, veniva ritrovata esanime e sfigurata nella camera del residence di Lamezia Terme in cui viveva ormai da un pò di tempo. L'omicidio è rimasto privo di colpevoli.

E' prevista per la prossima estate l'uscita del docufilm "Iron Maiden's Lost Singer", che riguarda Paul Di'Anno, cantante degli Iron Maiden dal 1978 al 1981, che è venuto a mancare a fine 2024.
