Varathron sono un gruppo musicale black metal greco formatosi ad Atene nel 1988 da Stefanos Karasavvas, noto con lo pseudonimo di Stefan Necroabyssious. Considerati tra i pionieri della scena black metal greca insieme a band come Rotting Christ e Necromantia, Varathron hanno un sound caratterizzato da atmosfere cupe e ritmi veloci. Il loro primo concerto risale al 1990, condividendo il palco con i Rotting Christ. Il debutto discografico arriva nel 1993 con l'album "His Majesty at the Swamp", pubblicato dall'etichetta Cyber Music.
