The Cars sono stati un gruppo rock/new wave statunitense formatosi a Boston nel 1976. Guidati dal frontman Ric Ocasek, il gruppo ha raggiunto la fama negli anni '80 con un sound caratterizzato da sintetizzatori, riff di chitarra accattivanti e testi ironici e introspettivi. Tra i loro successi più noti figurano "Just What I Needed", "My Best Friend's Girl" e "Drive". Dopo una pausa nel 1988, The Cars si sono riuniti per brevi periodi nel 2010-2011 e nel 2018. L'album di debutto omonimo del 1978 ha segnato l'inizio della loro ascesa, seguito da successi come "Candy-O" (1979) e "Panorama" (1980). Ric Ocasek, oltre a essere il leader del gruppo, si è dimostrato un talentuoso produttore musicale. The Cars hanno lasciato un segno indelebile nella musica degli anni '80, influenzando generazioni di artisti.
