My name is Tommy Waylon Barrett
I'm the point man for the brand
I can rope and ride and break the broncs
Some call me the top hand
I own this pony and this rifle
This saddle was my Dad's
And everything I've ever owned fits in these saddle bags
As I drag black calves to the fire
My hearts full of desire
For a brown eyed ranchers' daughter
Who's gone and stole my heart
And I got miles and miles of fence to ride
Through those canyons where those coyotes hide
I'll be all night checking heifers till those babies hit the ground
And it's so damn cold and I'm saddle sore
And I've rode till I can't ride no more
And now I lie here on my bedroll and count the stars and dream of you
Carlos Diego was a bandit, he rode the southern plains
He'd rustle through the yearlings and rob the pacific trains
He stole horses, gold and women
And he killed a hundred men
The problem with the devil, is he has no fear of sin
And I got miles and miles of fence to ride
Through those canyons where those coyotes hide
I'll be all night checking heifers till those babies hit the ground
And it's so damn cold and I'm saddle sore
And I've rode till I can't ride no more
And now I lie here on my bedroll and count the stars and dream of you
Carlos Diego stole my lady
He was headed southern bound
So I borrowed me a pistol
And rode towards that border town
We met on main street right at midday
While the sun was shining bright
Both my hands were trembling
This was my first gun fight
Then the bullets rained like thunder and the smoke it filled the sky
I whispered to my angel, your safe now girl don't cry
Cause I got miles and miles of fence to ride
Through those canyons where those coyotes hide
I'll be all night checking heifers till those babies hit the ground
And it's so damn cold and I'm saddle sore
And I've rode till I can't ride no more
And now I lie here on my bedroll and count the stars and dream of you
Now I lay here on my bedroll and count the stars and dream of you
