Therion è un gruppo musicale svedese fondato nel 1987 a Väsby, vicino a Stoccolma. Considerati pionieri del symphonic metal, hanno attraversato diverse fasi stilistiche, dal black metal iniziale al progressive metal, incorporando elementi classici, orchestrali e persino folk nella loro musica. Il gruppo è noto per le sue performance live epico-drammatiche e per l'utilizzo di un ampio range di strumenti, tra cui cori, archi e tastiere. Tra i brani più rappresentativi figurano "To Mega Therion", "Theli" e "Cult of Fire". L'album "Lemuria" (1996) è considerato un punto di svolta nella loro carriera, segnando l'ingresso nel symphonic metal con influenze classiche. Therion ha collaborato con numerosi artisti, tra cui la soprano operistica Sarah Brightman. La band continua ad essere attiva e a registrare nuovi album.
