Emperor è una storica band black metal norvegese, attiva dal 1991 al 2001 e poi di nuovo dal 2014. Considerati uno dei gruppi più influenti del genere, Emperor ha contribuito a definire l'estetica e la sonorità del black metal sinestesico con un approccio melodico e atmosferico. Il gruppo è composto da Ihsahn (voce, chitarra) e Samoth (chitarra), che hanno collaborato con altri musicisti come Trym (batteria) e Mortiis (tastiere). Tra i loro album più importanti figurano "In the Nightside Eclipse" (1994), considerato un classico del genere, e "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" (1997). Emperor è noto per brani come 'I Am the Black Wizards', 'Thus spake Zarathustra' e 'The Majesty of the Nightsky'.
