The Libertines sono un gruppo musicale inglese di indie rock formatosi a Londra nel 1997. Il nucleo originale era composto da Pete Doherty (voce, chitarra), Carl Barat (chitarra, voce), John Hassall (basso) e Gary Powell (batteria). La band ha raggiunto il successo con l'album d'esordio omonimo del 2002, caratterizzato da un sound energico che mescolava influenze garage rock, punk revival e melodie pop. Tra i brani più noti figurano "Time for Heroes", "Can't Stand Me Now" e "Don't Look Back into the Sun". Dopo una serie di problemi interni e personali, inclusi quelli legati all'alcolismo e alle droghe di Doherty, The Libertines si sono sciolti nel 2005. Nel 2010 la band ha annunciato un reunion con l'uscita dell'album "Anthems for Doomed Youth", seguito da una tournée mondiale.
