Laying on the dock again
Watching lightning strike somewhere
I've never been even since
I used to lay here as a kid with family and friends
And nothing mattered then but happiness
I've been around the world since then
And I've loved and lost, I made some friends
I've got regrets just like the rest
But I learned something critical
Ya can't buy back a second ago and why would you?
'Cuz this one's new
You know we don't know where we're going
We don't know what will happen.
But that'll never matter to the moment we have here
You know we only have to live, love and laugh through
The good times and the bad too
Your whole life's up to you
It's been a long way from the top
But the top's not what this life's about
Plus that was then and this is now
Been on the edge but I stepped back
Because they were right and that too passed
The hardest times never last
You know we don't know where we're going
We don't know what will happen
But that'll never matter to the moment we have here
You know we only have to live, love and laugh through
The good times and the bad too
Your whole life's up to you
Tell me what you're thinking about, right now
Tell me are you happy or sad and why's that?
Did you know where you'd be here now a year ago
Tell me did you plan it out, how'd that go?
All I know is I don't know if tomorrow's gonna come or go
So why waste your time and energy on things like
Envy and shame, guilt, hate or jealousy?
Don't waste your energy
The past will never change
You know we don't know where we're going
We don't know what will happen
But that'll never matter to the moment we have here
You know we only have to live, love and laugh through
The good times and the bad too
Your whole life's up to you
